Thanks! Giving?   A Lifestyle of Gratitude

Thanksgiving verses Christmas

Simplicity versus Consumption

Thankful People

  • Spiritually
  • Relationally
  • Emotionally

  •  Foundation of Thanksgiving

  • God Created Everything

“In the beginning, God”

Genesis 1:1

“The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom”

Proverbs 9:1

“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

Romans 1:19

  • God Owns Everything

The earth is the Lord‘s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,”

Psalm 24:1

  • The Purpose of God’s Creation

“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:16

  • The Proper Response

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31

Thankfulness does not guarantee a Carefree Life

There are flaws, pain, and suffering

  • Sin
  • The free will of mankind

2 Corinthians 4:15 “For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. 16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

  •  The Response of the Lost

“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.”

Romans 1:21

“because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.”

Romans 1:25

Satan is the father of lies.

  • Growing in Thankfulness

  • Acknowledge and Commit to God’s Ownership.

Everything you have belongs to God

  • Practice dependence vs. independence

“Prayerlessness is our declaration of independence from God”

  • The Three Gs

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight”

Ephesians 1:3

Daily acknowledge the Gift

”For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6:23

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Ephesians 2:8,9

Daily thank the Giver

Regularly express His grace

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 20:35

“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”

2 Corinthians 9:11
